Abstract
Arid zone afforestation is a difficult and costly venture.  It is estimated that between 300 and 500 million seedlings of forest trees are planted every year in the arid and semi-arid zones of the world with varying degrees of success.  This paper discusses the major technical problems of arid zone afforestation and highlights certain pre-requisites for its success.
