The importance of sports was  brought to the fore during this year’s edition of the Inter-Collegiate/Vice-Chancellor’s Cup, which was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Wellness Centre of the University. At the opening ceremony of the sports fiesta, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako, described sports as the series of games that are meant not only for entertainment but for man’s healthy living. The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Lateef Sanni, noted that it was important that people take sports to be part of their daily activities.

He urged the elderly to engage in trekking up to about 6,000 steps in a day. According to him, the University Management had tried to ensure that soccer and other indoor games were made attractive. He lauded FUNAAB sports team for putting up a fantastic performance during the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) meeting. The Vice-Chancellor noted that, “The key is not the will to win”, rather, it is the will to prepare to win that is more important. He implored participants to enjoy the games with no violence, stating that this time around, everyone was going to see excellent sporting activities from the track-fields to the indoor games. The Acting Director of Sports, Dr. Samuel Olabanji commended the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor for making this year’s event take a new dimension, for renovating the sports centre and bringing in new equipment.
