Ayelotan Tawakaltu began her IT Professional career in February, 2004 as a System Analyst II at the then Computer Centre, UNAAB.  Her first assignment was to understudy IDWorks Software for data capturing and production of Identity Cards for members of the university community.  She led the team in-charge of IDCard from 2004 to 2012 before handing over to a successor.  Alongside the IDCard assignment, she was also appointed as the Secretary, Timetable and Examination Committee (TIMTEC) and served meritoriously from 2004 to 2011.  She was an active member of the E-learning and EduPortal Project that was constituted in 2005 as she led the team that converted students’ records (i.e. academic and bio-data) from files to digital form. Upon completion and handing over of the Registration Portal of the E-learning Project, she was appointed as the Head, Management Information System Unit of ICTREC.  The headship of MIS Unit gave her the opportunity to learn Structured Query Language (SQL), a programming language for storing and processing information in a relational database as the major tool to execute her day to day tasks in the unit.  In 2012, the university management saddled her with the responsibility of leading e-Exam team to coordinate and over-see the activities of the team, a position she held satisfactorily for 10 years.  She was promoted to Deputy Director II in 2021 and she currently works with the Director for the smooth running of the centre and providing professional guidance to staff.
