Dr. Ayinde, Adefunke Fadilat O. is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Administration, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, FUNAAB, awarded her B. Agric., M. Agric. (Agric. Communication), and Ph.D. Before joining FUNAAB in 2011, she worked with women groups as a Frontline Extension Officer with the Women-in-Agriculture component of Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP) for 15 years, covering over 46,000 farming families in Ilugun Block, Abeokuta Zone and Someke Block, Ikenne Zone.
In 2017, Dr. Ayinde did her post-doc as a Cohort 3 fellow of CIRCLE (Climate Impact Research and Capacity Leadership Enhancement); a 1-year Climate Change fellowship sponsored by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), UK in collaboration with the African Academy of Sciences, UK Aids (DFID), Natural Resource Institute, and Vitae (a professional development organisation in the UK) to carry out a study on ‘Adaptation of Arable Crop Farmers to Climate Variability in Rain Forest and Derived Savanah Ecosystems of Nigeria’ at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. This afforded her the privilege of attending scientific and capacity-building events such as Writing and Induction Workshop at the AAS in 2017, Post-Fellowship Workshops at the AAS in 2018, presentation of research outcomes at the Climate Adaptation at a 2018 Conference organised by National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF), University of Griffith, Melbourne, Australia. During the CIRCLE fellowship, she also won another scholarship sponsored by São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), the INterdisciplinaryCLimateINvestigationcEnter (INCLINE), Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences (IAG) and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) to participate in a twin event; a 2-week Climate training (Scientific Basis, Adaptation, Vulnerability, and Mitigation) and conference at the University de São Paulo (USP), São Paulo, Brazil in 2018, where she presented her preliminary CIRCLE research findings. Meanwhile, in 2016, she had won ACU Early Career Academic Grants scheme to attend an international conference in Cape Town.
Dr. Ayinde was invited to contribute to a discussion on private sector participation in NDC-aligned activities in agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa titled ‘Private Sector Finance for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Implementation in Sub-Saharan Africa (PRINDCISSA): Workshop on Adaptation Finance in Agriculture’ hosted by SouthSouthNorthOrganisation in Cape Town in 2018. Recently, she was the Southwest Coordinator of Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme Ex-pillar 4 (CAADP XP4) Project, focusing on Strengthening Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Technologies, Innovations, and Management Practices (TIMPs) knowledge to facilitate the uptake and integration of CSA-TIMPs into policy and practice among key stakeholders. The project was implemented by the Nigerian Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (NIFAAS) with the support of the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS), Global Forum for Rural Advisory Service (GFRAS), EU, and IFAD. Currently, she is a collaborator in climate change research (NRF 2020 EWS) sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND). She was a recipient of TETFUND scholarship to attend the International Conference of Sustainable Livelihoods and Development Network for Africa, (SLIDEN Africa) held at the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana in 2012. Earlier in 2008 she was a supervisor in DM 2008; Global Development Marketplace Sustainable Agriculture for Development which was sponsored by the World Bank.
To date, she has participated in 3 international Commissioned projects, attended 5 international (Australia, Brazil, South Africa, and Ghana) and numerous local conferences, several training programmes in Nigeria, many of which she was the resource person. Dr. Ayinde has 34 local and international journal articles, numerous refereed conference proceedings, and technical papers to her credit. Since her assumption of duty in FUNAAB, she has taught or participated in teaching 21 courses at Undergraduate, PGD and postgraduate levels. She has also supervised 38 undergraduates and co-supervised 2 Masters students and 1 PhD student. Presently, she is supervising/co-supervising 9 Masters students at various stages of completion. Her research interest includes Agricultural Administration, Agricultural Communication, Rural Development, Adaptation of Arable Crops to Climate Variability, Group Dynamics, Leadership Enhancement, and Gender issues in agriculture.
She is a member of different professional bodies in Nigeria and abroad. She is a reviewer of two international journals {Environment, Development and Sustainability Journal (ENVI) published by Springer as well as Journal of Climate Change and Sustainability (JCCS) published by Kenya Meteorological Society, Kenya} and the FUNAAB University Journal (Journal of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Creative Arts; JHSSCA). Dr. Ayinde holds different positions of responsibilities in her within the University, and the community at large.
Dr. Ayinde is a humanitarian activist, public commentator, and gender advocate. She was a member of the Think-tank Group on policy for the incoming governor of Ogun State (Senator Ibikunle Amosun) in 2011. She is a recipient of a letter of commendation by her College (Faculty) and a couple of awards in recognition of her contribution to developing the College Proposal for FUNAAB 2020 Strategic Plan and her selflessness in society respectively.
