Professor Tolu, Eni-Olorunda, is a professor of Intellectual Disability in the Department of Home Science and Management, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Prior to joining the services of FUNAAB, her background was in Nursing and was appointed as a staff nurse at the University College Hospital Ibadan in 1977. She had her midwifery done as (in-service) from 1978 to 1979). She went for her degree programme at the Department of Nursing, University of Ibadan in 1990. She rose through the ranks of Nursing career and became a principal Nurse Tutor in 1997. Between 1993 and 1998, her interest for persons with special needs made her to pursue her Masters and Doctorate degrees in Special Education, specializing in Intellectual Disability. She was deployed to the Primary Health care Tutors programme in 1995 as an Assistant Course Coordinator and became the substantive Coordinator of the programme in 1997.
She started her academic career as Lecturer II in October 1999 after transferring her services to the Department of Special Education, University of Ibadan. Professor Tolu Eni-Olorunda rose through the ranks and became a Senior Lecturer in 2006. She was the Postgraduate Coordinator, Department of Special Education from 2003 to 2010. She also served as the Director, Child Clinic, Department of Special Education from 2005 to 2010. She was the Chairperson, Faculty Senior Staff Common Room 2003 to 2005.
Professor Tolu Eni-Olorunda was a recipient of John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s Short-Term Overseas training grant in 2006 which she utilized at the Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. She was also the Coordinator/Liason person of the Joint Project between Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Department UCH and Department of Special Education Sponsored by MacArthur Foundation, from 2008 to 2010.
Professor Tolu Eni-Olorunda transferred her services to the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta in 2010. She was appointed a Reader in 2012 and promoted a Professor in 2015.
She became the Acting Head of Department from 2011 to 2013, and from 2015 to 2017 respectively. She was a member of the committee on the Development of policy for persons with Special Needs in the University from 2014 to 2015. Member, Committee on Gender Policy of FUNAAB, 2014. College Representative on COLMAS Promotion Committee from 2016 to 2020
College representative to Library Board, 2011 to 2019. Member, University Senate, 2011 to 2013, 2015 to date. Member, COLFHEC College Board, 2010 till date. She serves regularly as a Post Graduate representative at Oral defense examinations FUNAAB. She has assessed papers for Readership and Professorship in some universities in Nigeria, such as university of Jos and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). She has served as External examiner to the Obafemi Awolowo University, and Zulu University, South Africa and the Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo. She is currently the external examiner to the Faculty of Education and Institute of Child Health, University of Ibadan. She is the National Chair (Nigeria) for International Association for Special Education (IASE) since 2014 till date. She served as an Editor to the (IASE) from 2014 to 2017 and currently, an Editor to African Journal of Inclusive Special Education (AJISE).
She teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She has supervised over one hundred undergraduate projects, over Forty-five M.Ed/M.Sc. as Major supervisor for three and co-supervisor for 6 PhD theses. She has over 55 academic publications to her credit including chapters in book and conference proceedings.
