The Chairman of the Strategic Plan 2021 to 2026 Committee, Professor Babatunde Kehinde has completed the task of preparing a 5-Year Strategic Plan for the University beginning from January 2021 to December 2025.

Speaking at a mild ceremony today, October 20, 2021, in the Vice-Chancellor’s Meeting Room A, the Chairman stated that the Plan was a thorough and painstaking job by reviewing the last strategic plan 2014 to 2020 through establishing of sub-committees to ascertain whether it was fully implemented and how it was carried out.

According to him, the Terms of Reference (ToR), of the Committee was to study, review and make recommendations and the result of the review was that the last Strategic Plan was poorly executed. He noted that there was little or no synergy among Units in the University.

The Committee, therefore, felt the need to re-adjust the Strategic Plan from the initial six years to five years so as to be robust and dynamic, noting that after five years it could be reviewed according to current realties. He added that the subsequent Strategic Plan would be from January 2026 to December 2030.

Professor Kehinde, a former Director of the Institute of Human Resources (INHURD), stressed that the Sub-Committees were divided into three, namely: Academic Programmes, Finance and internationalisations, adding that the completed Plan went through different stages of corrections, suggestions and inputs, before the final copy.

While reeling-out the recommendations on behalf of the other 30 members of the Committee, Professor Kehinde said that there must be effective monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the Strategic Plan to actualise its objectives and a Strategic Plan Implementation Committee be established as well as convene a One-Day Interactive Forum for the Operators of the Strategic Plan to know the Concept, formulation and implementation of the Strategic Plan and its Key Performance Indicators (KPI).

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako appreciated the Committee for the task of delivering a Strategic Plan for the University, noting that the operators of the yet to be established Strategic Plan Implementation Committee should submit a quarterly report to avert a possibility of low or non-implementation of the Plan.

The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the Strategic Plan was designed around 12 main strategies to form the core of aspirations for the next five years, adding that it captured key priorities and the University’s core values which are: Mandate and Organisational Structure; Human Resources Management and Social Services; Financial Resources Management; Research, Extension and Community Engagements. Others are Internationalisations; Quality Assurance; Academic Programmes, Physical Resources Management; Entrepreneurship and Commercialisations; including Security, ICT and Digital Transformation.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the Plan would enhance FUNAAB’s reputation and also put the University on a global pedestal.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, directed that the Deans and Directors as well as Heads of Departments and Units should submit a Four-Year Report of the activities of their Colleges, Departments and Units. Professor Salako further directed that the soft copy of the Strategic Plan be sent to all staff members’ e-mail addresses and also to be uploaded on the University’s website.

He stated that hard copy of each be given to Principal Officers, Senate members, Heads of Non-Teaching Units as well as top Senior Non-Teaching Staff, adding that 10 copies each be given to the Library and atleast 10 copies to each of the Principal Officers’ offices.

Highpoint was the presentation of copies to the Vice-Chancellor. Present at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellors incharge of Academic and Development, Professors Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale and Clement Adeofun as well as the Registrar, Dr. Bola Adekola; Bursar, Mr. Chukwuwinke Ezekpeazu; representative of the University Librarian, Dr. Olusola Bamigboye and the Deputy Registrar I, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu.
