The Student Affairs Division in collaboration with the Student Union Executives on October 31, 2021, organised a one-day tour of the University campus for the newly-admitted students, tagged “Freshers Jaunt”.
While welcoming the new students to FUNAAB, and speaking on the rationale for the event, the Dean, Student Affairs, Professor Mobolaji Omemu noted the importance of the programme, saying that over the years, many new students usually get overwhelmed with all the names and acronyms of the different halls and classrooms within the University, whereby some new students even get late to lectures or examination halls, because they have no idea of the location of the venue.
Professor Omemu added that the event was geared towards helping the new students get familiar with the University and its environment which forms part of their orientation of the University. According to her, school is about learning, but not all learning happens in the classroom
She informed the Freshers that FUNAAB is a place to be, noting that it is home away from home. Professor Omemu encouraged the new students to familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations guiding their stay in FUNAAB, stating that they should acquaint themselves with the University Calendar and the Undergraduate Prospectus.
Professor Omemu who is the first female Dean of Student Affairs, stressed that the Undergraduate Prospectus would be given to all new students, adding that the Students Affairs Division is always opened to all students who might need any information, help or support.
She, however, sounded a note of warning to the students that they should face their primary assignment which is to study, admonishing them to stay away from any vice that could tarnish the image of the University.
Highpoint was the tour beginning from the Motion Ground to all the Colleges, including all major Lecture Theaters as well as the Student Centre, Male and Female Hostels, Senate Building, ICTREC Building, and the Nimbe Adedipe Library.
It should be noted that the Freshers Jaunt was the first of its kind in the University and it created unique opportunities for the Freshers to bond with their classmates, know legitimate clubs and associations, in addition to meeting all the Student Union Executives.
