Business activities within and especially outside the campus have come back to life, following the resumption of students for the 1st Semester 2017/2018 Academic Session.
FUNAAB Bulletin crew which visited students’ densely populated neighbourhood including Harmony Estate, Isolu and Camp where petty trading thrives, gathered from traders and other operators of commerce that business was generally dull and bad while the students were on break.
However, with their resumption penultimate week, commercial activities have started booming again.
Speaking with FUNAAB Bulletin at Harmony Estate Junction, beside Guaranty Trust Bank, Alabata Road, a young man who gave his name as Charles, an operator of students’ online-Registration mobile business centre said it has been profit unusual for him since the resumption of fresh students.
Charles disclosed that his business sold like ‘hot cake’ having more than enough new students to commercially register online unlike when the staylites were on break.
Speaking in the same vein, a commercial cab operator, popularly known in local parlance as ‘Kabukabu’ said transportation business was at its lowest ebb during the break because students, who are his major passengers and customers, were not on ground.
‘Baba Aro’ as he’s popularly called said with the resumption of students, business has started picking up again.
Corroborating him at Orombos, a popular food joint at Camp Junction, one “Iya Ope” while selling to students who crowded and besieged her said the high level of patronage of students the Bulletin crew met on ground, was an indication that her business thrives on the presence of students.
She recalled that her business was a mere shadow of sales when the students were on break, thus forcing her to operate skeletally.
Checks revealed that in its thirty years of existence, FUNAAB has been a major developer of her host communities.
As the business hub within her neighborhood, the students and members of staff are at the driver’s seat of commerce for landlords, producers and business owners, among others.
