The Vice-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, UNAAB, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has challenged Secretarial Staff in the institution to avail themselves of the expertise in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in order to be distinguished as reputed professionals and to enhance efficient service delivery.
Professor Balogun who spoke at the 3rd In-House Workshop of the University Secretarial Staff Association (USSA), UNAAB Branch, titled, ‘Electronic Document Information Techniques’, called on the Secretaries to embrace the opportunities offered by the workshop and to regularly update with current professional techniques, particularly as dictated by ICT.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Chryss Onwuka, Prof. Balogun noted that Secretarial staff played prominent roles in the goal attainment of any organisation.
He however warned Secretaries, not to fall victim of the bandwagon effect, but to always strive for uniqueness by standing out from the crowd through steady acquisition of the ICT knowledge.
The Vice-Chancellor, who recalled some deliberate efforts of the University’s Management at improving the competence and efficiency levels of the Secretaries, reiterated
that more capacity building programmes had been further planned for them in order to improve on their efficiency.
Performing his first public function in his capacity as the Acting Registrar, Mr. Adeleke Adeboye, charged the Secretarial staff to uphold the principle of diligence, discipline, decency and decorum in the discharge of their duties.
He described as erroneous, the impression that 8.30am was the official resumption time in the University, pointing out that the normal resumption schedule was 8:00a.m, adding that Management graciously extended it by 30 minutes out of magnanimity and in consideration of the distance of the University to town.
Adeboye disclosed that as part of efforts to ensure punctuality and increase efficiency by staff, the incumbent administration is fine-tuning arrangements for Staff Quarters, while the University’s Staff School would soon be relocated to the Permanent Site.
Earlier in her Welcome Address, the USSA Chairperson, Mrs. A. O. Arowosegbe, expressed the readiness of her members to take up the challenges of positively contributing their quota and keying-in to the development initiative of the University.
