In a bid to address critical issues in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, a distinguished figure in agricultural research and academia has advocated for international collaboration in sustainable farming.
Delivering a Keynote Panel Discussion at the “Nigeria: Now Conference,” organised by the United States Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and US SOY, on June 4, 2024 at the Marriot Hotel, Lagos, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the significance of sustainable agriculture, underscoring the need for technological advancements and knowledge-sharing initiatives to boost agricultural productivity, while preserving the environment.
According to him, the Conference was aimed to foster sustainable agricultural practices and enhance collaboration between Nigeria and the United States of America.
Prof. Kehinde commended the efforts of the organisers in facilitating discussions on critical issues facing Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, stressing the necessity of public-private partnerships and international collaborations to drive agricultural transformation and unlock the sector’s full potential.
As the Vice-Chancellor of the foremost agricultural institution in Africa, Prof. Kehinde’s insights resonated strongly with attendees, comprising government officials, industry experts, researchers, and stakeholders from the agricultural sector.
His remarks received widespread acclaim for their depth and practical relevance in addressing the multifaceted challenges confronting Nigeria’s agriculture.
On the sidelines of the Panel Discussions, Prof. Kehinde actively participated in other workshops, contributing his expertise to explore strategies for enhancing agricultural sustainability, improving value chain efficiency, and promoting inclusive growth across the sector.
Meanwhile, “Nigeria: Now Conference” served as a pivotal platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration towards achieving a more resilient and prosperous agricultural sector in Nigeria.
Some of the esteemed dignitaries present included the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji; Group CEO of AMO Group Nigeria, Dr. Ayo Oduntan and the Director, Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE), Prof. Adeboye Fafiolu, among others.
