VC Commends DSS for Support

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has commended and appreciated the Department for State Security (DSS) for their cooperation whenever they are called upon by the University.

Professor Salako gave the commendation while playing hosting to the Director, State Security Service, Ogun State Command. Mr. David Tuksa and his team who paid a Courtesy call to him.

According to the Vice- Chancellor, the University Management recognizes the importance of State Security, intelligence in security matters and peace on campus and will definitely work with the DSS.

He disclosed that “We can only give glory to God for the peace on campus for the past one year. The University environment is a volatile environment, we on our part as Management, we work for peace, we can’t achieve anything without peace.  If we don’t have peace, we can’t make moves that are right.  So that’s why we need all the stakeholders to partner with us”.

Professor Salako revealed that the current Administration of the University believes in dialogue and prompt response to problems.

Lauding the operational styles of the DSS, Professor Salako said “I tell people that security is not about carrying guns and wearing uniforms alone, Security is about intelligence.  It is when you know what you are going to face that you can face it and plan for it physically.  I want to thank you for your intervention so far”.

In his response, the Director of DSS corroborated the Vice Chancellor, stating that University communities are sensitive in nature and as such managing them is not as easy as managing other institutions and communities.

He pointed out that to be able to assist the Government and the management of the Universities, there must be a partnership which according to him prompted his visit to the University to inform them of his presence in the State so that the management knows who to contact in case of any issue.

Mr. Tuksa enjoined the University to always partner with Security operatives towards ensuring a peaceful academic environment and State.
