In a bid to engender unity and peaceful relationships among the members of staff in the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako today, October 20, 2021, declared the 2021 Staff Unity Games opened at a colourful ceremony held at the University’s Sports Centre.
Professor Salako, while addressing participants at the Games, stated that when he arrived at the pitch, he noticed a lot of excitement, saying that it was the spirit behind organising the Games. According to him, on arriving the Grandstand, the level of unity he saw was exciting.
Professor Salako noted the interaction and friendly mien among the Academic and Non-Teaching staff, stressing that he had seen members of staff from the Registry, Security, Bursary and even the Vice-Chancellor’s Office relating with each other which was devoid of rancour and division.
Commenting on the proposal for a change of name from Staff Unity Games, the sports-loving Vice-Chancellor said that there was no need as what was more important was the varied gathering, describing the Unity Games as a melting pot for all members of staff.
He appreciated all the members of staff who participated in the Games be it players, fans or spectators, while commending pupils of the FUNAAB Staff School for also participating.
Highlights of the Opening Ceremony was a friendly match between the University Management team featuring superstars like the Registrar, Dr. Bola Adekola; Director, Works and Services, Engr. Olawole Akinyele; Deputy Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Adeboye Fafiolu; Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. Kola Adepoju; representative of ICTREC Director and SSANU Chairman, Comrade Rotimi Fasunwon; representative of Director, Health Services, Dr. Oluseyi Anjorin, among others and the University women players named, FUNAAB Falcons that paraded stars like the SSANU Zonal Women Leader, Mrs. Bolanle Adebesin; Mrs. Olufunke Apelehin; Mrs. Gladys Ochu and SSANU Women Leader, Mrs. Omotunde Ogunsanya, among others. Also there was a March Past by participants of the Games.
The FUNAAB Falcons put up strong resistance and the match ended goalless.
Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale; representative of the University Librarian, Dr. Olusola Bamigboye; Deputy Registrar I, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu and a host of others from all corners of the University.
