Teachers and students from the Apostolic Church Grammar School, Orishigun, Ketu, Lagos State; the Alma Mater of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako, recently paid a courtesy call on him as part of efforts to identify with one of their own. Speaking during the visit to the Vice-Chancellor, the Principal of the Senior School, Mrs. Remilekun Adebambo, said the visit was aimed at celebrating the Vice-Chancellor, as one of the products from the school, and to motivate the current students to be studious, adding that the visit afforded the students an opportunity to familarise themselves with the serene atmosphere of a university.

Mrs. Adebambo stated that the school would be celebrating its Founder’s Day and invited the Vice-Chancellor as Special Guest at the occasion. Responding, the Vice-Chancellor recalled he was the Labour Prefect during his set in 1977, while urging the present crop of students to define their goals and pursue them vigorously, saying “I am not telling you to come and become a Professor; you should define your goals, know what you want in life and never go back”.

Prof. Salako advised the students not to run other people’s races but be submissive, humble, and listen to the advice of their parents so as to go far in life.  While advising parents against the imposition of careers on their children, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged them to imbibe the word of God; to guide, guard and show the children the path of honour, diligence, discipline, decency and above all, the fear of God. He expressed his reservations on the use of electronic gadgets by students in the 21st Century for fraudulent means rather than for positive purposes, as he called for attitudinal change in this regard.
