VC meets with University Professors …Describes them as elders in the system

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako has described the Professors in the University as elders in the system, irrespective of their age, stressing that they are an integral part of the system that enhances smooth running and development of the Institution.

The Vice-Chancellor said this during a “town hall” meeting, held at the Mahmood Yakuub Lecture Hall with all the Professors in the University.

In his speech, Professor Salako commended and appreciated the Professors, for their immense contributions towards the smooth running of the system.

He charged them to be mindful of their individual behaviour, noting that they should be role models to their students and staff.

Speaking at the Forum, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Oluyemisi Eromosele, noted that Professors are expected to provide leadership at departmental level and College Board, among others.

She charged them to give adequate time for the supervision of their students, both at the undergraduate and the Post Graduate levels.

Also speaking, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Chryss Onwuka charged the team of erudite scholars to go back to the template on which they were employed and equip themselves with the rules and regulations of the University.

Professor Onwuka harped on discipline and integrity among the Professors, charging them not to arrogate to themselves powers that are not theirs

He further admonished them that all in the system look up to them and as a result, they cannot be found wanting,they should bear in mind that “to whom much is given,much is expected.

In his contributions, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Omolayo Ariyo atutdhrol tysetheorrh siaPson one hand and on the other have been given positions of responsibilities .

He called for disciplinary measures, especially for those that break the rules of the system, describing Professors in the system as custodians of knowledge, serving consultative purposes to others coming behind.

Corroborating other speakers, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Toyin Arowolo said that Professors are supposed to lead by example in the system adding that becoming a Professor should keep them above board.
