As part of efforts to enhance town and gown relationship, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has paid homage to prominent Royal Fathers in Egbaland.
The Obas are, the Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, HRM Oba (Dr.) Adedapo Adewale Tejouso, Karunwi III; the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, HRM Oba Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu, Amororo II; the Olubara of Ibara Kingdom, HRM Oba (Dr.) Jacob Olufemi Omolade, Lafa II;. Others were, the Olu of Osiele, HRM Oba William Olowoyo and the Ontoko of Obantoko, Oba Abdulganiyu Kehinde Adesaanu.
Speaking at his Palace at Ibara, the Olubara congratulated the Vice-Chancellor for his appointment, saying that it was God that put him in position. He prayed for a successful tenure of office. The Monarch, who noted the hardworking nature of members of staff and the peaceful disposition of the students, stressed that they should not relent.
Similarly, the Osile who has been on his forefathers’ throne for close to 29 years, commended the Vice-Chancellor and his team for the timely visit, noting that it coincided with his 80th Birthday celebration. He prayed that the visit would be mutually-beneficial to both the University and his Kingdom.
The Royal Father, however canvassed for the transformation of the University to a conventional status.
In the same vein, the Olowu who felt highly honoured by the Vice-Chancellor’s visit, prayed for peace, progress and stability of the University. He said that he was proud of the University, stating that he would do everything humanly possible to support the University’s development.
At the Olu of Osiele’s Place, the Olu extolled the leadership qualities of Professor Salako, saying that he was a grassroot and community man. The monarch, therefore, lauded the gesture of the Vice-Chancellor, adding that he was the Chairman, Governing Board of St. Mary’s School, Osiele, a Primary School, he or any of his family members never attended.
He paid glowing tributes to the Vice-Chancellor for participating fully in the affairs of his immediate community.
In a related development, the Ontoko at his Palace, prayed the Almighty to guide the Vice-Chancellor in his daily activities.
Earlier in his addresses at the various Palaces, Professor Salako pledged to work harmoniously with the Obas, while seeking their royal support and cooperation to take the University to a higher pedestal.
