As part of efforts to take the University to unprecedented heights, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has presented his 12-point strategic plan to members of Congregation.
Making the presentation at the first Congregation Meeting he presided over since his assumption of office on November 1, 2017, Professor Salako disclosed that his administrative style would be characterized by leadership that is solidly based on democracy, diligence and discipline.
According to him, other key areas of focus of his agenda include promotion of research and scholarship; creating an enabling teaching and learning environment; promotion of entrepreneurship; community development; infrastructural development and maintenance, as well as promotion of health and sports.
The Vice-Chancellor further stated that security and information dissemination, staff and student Unions welfare as well as, income generation and fund-raising would be cardinal in his agenda for the University.
Giving account of his stewardship and achievements recorded since he assumed office, Professor Salako stated that it included the smooth accreditation process for the College of Engineering (COLENG), College of BioSciences (COLBIOS), College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC) and College of Management Science (COLMAS), adding that most of the Departments have full or interim accreditation while only few are awaiting results.
On academic activities, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University had successfully completed examination for the 2016/2017 Academic Session for undergraduate, postgraduate and part-time programmes in January and February 2018 respectively. He appreciated the academic staff for magnanimously accepting to resume for the new Academic Session soon.
Speaking on Internet facility, Professor Salako informed members of Congregation that the University was part of the National Universities Commission (NUC), anchored Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) for the supply of 155 Mbps bandwidth. He disclosed that the university had successfully paid an annual subscription of 18 million Naira, courtesy of the Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE).
According to Professor Salako, other innovations and achievements recorded by his Administration included the re-separation of the Establishment Unit into Junior and Senior sub-units; successful completion of the process of the 2017 staff promotion; holding of Inaugural Lectures; support for staff advancement and grant from scholarship and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund); support for community engagement; Student Union and physical development; donation of a block making machine by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh through the intervention of the Chairman, Governing Council, Dr Aboki Zhawa, as well as the smooth take off of the test running of FUNAAB Radio.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, noted that the University had been faced with some challenges prominent among which are the shortfall in appropriate number of staff; water and electricity; teaching and laboratory facilities; hostel facilities; unstable academic calendar and indiscipline.
The Vice-Chancellor also formally introduced Congregation to the newly appointed Principal Officers, adding that Management was pleased with the positive contribution of elected Congregation representations in Council.
During an interactive session of the meeting, members of Congregation commended the charismatic leadership style of the Vice-Chancellor and presented some of their demands.
