Nigerians and most especially members of the University community have been charged to be conscious of the fact that whatever they do now would speak for them in the future.

This charge was given on October 19, 2021 by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako during the commissioning of an electronic signage depicting the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building. The signage was donated by the fourth Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun to mark his 68th birthday.

According to Professor Salako, everyone should try to leave a legacy that would speak for them positively, so that one would be remembered by generations to come. His words, “Chief Obafemi Awolowo is dead, but not dead because his legacies are still speaking for him till today from generations to generations.”

The Vice-Chancellor noted the importance of the signage, saying that it would serve as a direction to the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building which hosts most of FUNAAB’s significant event. He added that the signage would also make staff and students to be time conscious as it has an added feature of a digital clock.

The Vice-Chancellor who is a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria said that the University should be proud of the donated signage, stressing that Professor Balogun has always been concerned about the growth of the University. He added that the idea was muted by him noting that years after he left office as the Vice-Chancellor, his landmark projects has stood the test of time and conspicuously trailing him as his enduring legacies.

He said, “As we celebrate your birthday today, we pray that this day will mark the beginning of another glorious chapter in your life. Your remarkable qualities of diligence, discipline, transparency, accountability, fairness, justice, passion for excellence and fear of God are exemplary and worthy of emulation.”

The Vice-Chancellor who is also a Fellow of the Agricultural Society of Nigeria stated that the Governing Council, Management, Senate, Staff and Students of FUNAAB heartily rejoice with Professor Balogun who is widely known as the Architect of modern FUNAAB.

In her Vote of Thanks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale appreciated Professor Balogun for the donation of the electronic signage even as she urged all members of staff to live for a better tomorrow.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of a massive birthday card to Professor Balogun which was received by his representative, Professor Michael Ajayi.
