The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has joined the rest of Ogun State and the nation at large in mourning the passing of one of its most distinguished benefactors and Elder Statesmen, Chief Olatunde Ayinla Abudu, who was laid to rest on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Nobel House College premises in Abeokuta.
Chief Abudu, a renowned industrialist, philanthropist, education advocate and an Honorary Awardee of the University, left an indelible mark on FUNAAB through his visionary generosity and passionate support for institutional growth. Among his many contributions, the most iconic remained an ultra-modern edifice housing the UNAAB Microfinance Bank (UMFB) and the Directorate of Physical Planning (DPP), a structure he singlehandedly endowed as a gift to the University.

The imposing building, situated on the University Campus between the Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC) Building and the Unity Building, serves not only as a functional financial hub but also as a lasting monument to Chief Abudu’s belief in sustainable development and his commitment to empowering academic institutions through private support. In a time when public institutions increasingly rely on strategic partnerships and philanthropic gestures to complement government funding, Chief Abudu’s foresight set a shining example.

Described by many as a man of uncommon vision and impeccable integrity, Chief Abudu’s contributions to FUNAAB went beyond brick and mortar. He was a firm believer in the transformative power of education and remained deeply invested in the progress of the University. Through his actions and advocacy, he helped foster a culture of excellence and innovation in higher education.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, described Chief Abudu’s passing as a great loss to the University and the nation. “Chief Abudu was not just a donor; he was a builder and a vibrant stakeholder in the University. His generosity was anchored in purpose. The UNAAB Microfinance Bank building he donated remained a source of pride and functionality, and his legacy would continue to inspire generations of students and staff.”
Chief Abudu’s legacy in Ogun State and Nigeria at large spans multiple sectors. A trailblazer in the industrial landscape, he was a leading figure in the business world and served in various capacities that shaped policy and development. Yet, those who knew him often point to his humility, deep faith, and quiet but steady devotion to causes that uplifted others.

His final resting place, Nobel House College, an institution he founded and nurtured, reflected his lifelong devotion to education and nation-building. The College grounds were filled with dignitaries, family members, friends, and well-wishers who came to pay their last respects to a man whose life exemplified service, leadership, and enduring impact.
As FUNAAB reflects on the life and legacy of Chief Olatunde Ayinla Abudu, the University Community remains eternally grateful for his contributions. FUNAAB sends its heartfelt condolences to the Abudu family and prays for the peaceful repose of his soul.
In the words etched into memory by his works: “A man’s true wealth lies not in what he keeps, but in what he gives.” Chief Abudu gave and gave meaningfully. He would be sorely missed.
