The Alumni Association of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with the University, recently held the 2nd Edition of the Post-University Degree 2024 Summit.
With the theme “Charting Your Professional Journey: Building Skills for a Dynamic Future,” the highly anticipated event took place at the Postgraduate Auditorium, FUNAAB.
In his Opening Address, Mr. Bolaji Gbadamosi, Global President of the FUNAAB Alumni Association, highlighted the Summit’s mission to equip students with the necessary skills to tackle post-graduation career challenges.
Reflecting on the success of the inaugural edition in 2022, Mr. Gbadamosi stressed the positive outcomes that prompted the establishment of the annual event.
Mr. Gbadamosi shared personal anecdotes about securing his first job during his service year, emphasising the financial independence he achieved as a young graduate.
He proudly noted that many of the day’s panellists were accomplished FUNAAB alumni with vast experience in their respective fields.
The Summit, he explained, was a way for alumni to give back to their alma mater by ensuring that current students, particularly those in their final year, were well-prepared for their future careers.
According to him, the primary focus of the Summit was on the 500-Level students, to empower them to become independent employers rather than job seekers in the competitive labour market.
Mr. Gbadamosi underscored the collaboration between the FUNAAB Alumni Association and the University’s Career Service and Linkages Unit, which aimed to guide students in navigating their professional journeys towards a dynamic future.
The Keynote Speaker, Chief Emmanuel Apata, co-founder of Card Finance, delivered an inspiring address on “Building Skills for a Dynamic Future.”
He highlighted ten essential skills for future success, including digital literacy, technological skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and international skills.
Chief Apata urged students to remain focused and determined in their pursuit of success.
Delivering a Goodwill Message on behalf of the University’s Career Service, the Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR) in the Registry Unit at FUNAAB, Mrs. Adebimpe Alabi, reiterated the Federal Government’s objective in establishing the Career Service, vis a vis to assist students in securing gainful post-graduation employment.
Mrs. Alabi encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the Summit and the Career Service.
The Summit witnessed an impressive turnout, with scores of students, guests from various sectors, and distinguished personalities from the University Community.
