The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is once again in the global spotlight through one of its brightest alumni, Mr. Adeayo Adewumi, a 2018 First-Class graduate of Agricultural & Bio-Resources Engineering. Adeayo is breaking new ground at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), edge computing, and agriculture, delivering smart, real-time solutions that are transforming farming for smallholder farmers worldwide.

Currently with Purdue Research Services in the United States, Adeayo’s innovations bring data-driven solutions directly to farmers, including those in remote areas with limited internet access. By creating affordable, scalable, and farmer-friendly technologies, he bridges the gap between advanced research and everyday realities of agriculture.

His most groundbreaking contributions were AI-powered edge-computing devices that function without constant internet connectivity. These tools analyse soil health, predict pest outbreaks, and recommend precise irrigation strategies, empowering farmers to replace guesswork with science-driven efficiency, boosting yields, reducing waste, and improving livelihoods.

Adeayo’s visionary work has earned international recognition. At the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Annual International Meeting in Toronto, he clinched second-place research awards from both the African Network Group of ASABE (ANGASABE) and the Association of Agricultural, Biological, and Food Engineers of Indian Origin (AABFEIO). His innovations were also spotlighted by The Nation (August 7, 2025) as transformative for global agriculture.

Looking ahead, Adeayo envisions an agricultural future where African farmers enjoy the same access to cutting-edge intelligence as their counterparts in developed nations. By merging innovation with empathy, he is not only boosting productivity but also laying the foundation for a smarter, more sustainable, and food-secure world.

His remarkable journey is a shining testament to the quality of education and excellence nurtured at FUNAAB, where ideas are transformed into innovations that impact lives across the globe.
