The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has once again been thrust into the limelight as one of its distinguished alumni, Mr. Fahd Egunjobi, emerged as the Best Graduating Master’s Student and Valedictorian of the 2024/2025 cohort at the prestigious African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), Ghana.

Mr. Egunjobi, who earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the Department of Statistics, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), FUNAAB, delivered a heartfelt valedictory address during the graduation ceremony of the AIMS Regular Master’s Programme. In his speech, he emphasised the values of resilience, sacrifice, and collective purpose among Africa’s emerging scientific leaders.

“This day is not just about academic achievement,” he said, “but a celebration of a journey filled with resilience, sacrifice, multiple deadlines, and countless assignments.”

He reflected on the shared struggles and aspirations of his graduating peers, noting that many arrived at AIMS Ghana bearing not only personal dreams but also the hopes of their families, communities, and the continent. “We came from different corners of Africa, diverse in background, language, and experience, yet united by a common purpose: To learn, grow, and contribute to the future of science, technology, and innovation in Africa,” he declared.

Mr. Egunjobi’s inspiring words struck a chord with graduates and guests alike, reinforcing the pivotal role of African youth in advancing knowledge and driving change across the continent.

A shining example of FUNAAB’s academic excellence, Mr. Egunjobi was the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Statistics during the 2020/2021 Academic Session. He was awarded the highly competitive AIMS scholarship in 2023 to pursue his Master’s Degree, a journey that has now culminated in national and continental recognition.

His outstanding performance not only brings pride to his alma mater but also reaffirms FUNAAB’s reputation for nurturing globally competitive scholars.
