FUNAAB Management Parleys Ogun State Muslim Community… Resolves Ongoing Issues Amicably

In a proactive initiative, the authorities of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde successfully mediated a constructive dialogue with the Ogun State Muslim Community on the University Dress Code, which as it affects Muslim students and has caused recent public reactions.

The significant meeting, which held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Ogun State Police Headquarters, witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the representative of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo (Okukenu IV); Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu; Wakilu Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Sheikh Iskil Lawal Sugar; representative of the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sheikh Sa’adallah Bangbola; the Baba Adinni of Egbaland, Navy Captain Rasheed Raji (Rtd); the FUNAAB Muslim Community; the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, FUNAAB Branch; and other distinguished Muslim leaders in Ogun State.

A statement issued by the Registrar, Dr. Bola Adekola stated that the primary purpose of the meeting was to address and amicably resolve the ongoing issues related to the University’s dress code policy. At the meeting, the participants engaged in constructive dialogue, fostering an environment of understanding and cooperation.

Useful resolutions were reached, emphasising the importance of the peace process, resulting in the restoration of calm, normalcy, congeniality, and a prevailing sense of enduring peaceful co-existence within the University.

Moreover, the recent Jihad week organised by the MSSN, which commenced on Saturday, September 9, 2023, culminated with a Grand Finale on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, and the Vice-Chancellor was adequately represented at this auspicious event, underscoring the University’s commitment to inclusivity and unity, and continued peace process.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor has re-assured all well-meaning individuals and stakeholders that the University is now fully restored to its harmonious and tranquil environment, a testament to its reputation for fostering a sustainable peaceful atmosphere that is conducive to learning and personal growth.

The remarkable meeting served as a beacon of hope and an exemplar of conflict resolution for academic institutions nationwide, while the University management continues to find a lasting solution to issue in line with international best practices.
