The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), received a top team from the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) in a Courtesy Visit to forge a partnership for harmonising the State’s waste management programme across higher institutions. The meeting was held today, September 3, 2024, with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo.
During the meeting, Mr. Egbemuyiwa Ajani, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at OGWAMA, emphasised the Ogun State Government’s commitment to collaborating with educational institutions to align their waste management practices with the State’s guidelines and regulations.
He noted that the State was particularly interested in learning from FUNAAB’s waste management strategies, viewing it as an opportunity for knowledge exchange that could lead to widespread adoption of best practices across institutions.
Mr. Ajani further highlighted the economic potential embedded in effective waste management. He explained that the government holds key information essential for maximising the benefits and pointed out that investors prefer engaging directly with government bodies rather than individuals.
Responding, Prof. Adebayo expressed appreciation for the State Government’s initiative and the inclusion of FUNAAB in this collaborative effort. He welcomed the opportunity, remarking that waste management always offered new frontiers for innovation.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), therefore, assured the visitors of FUNAAB’s willingness to collaborate, highlighting the University’s reputation for maintaining one of the cleanest campuses in Nigeria, supported by strategic initiatives such as the placement of plastic recycling cages across the campus.
