In line with his agenda to reposition the University Library to make it more effective in serving its purpose to the university community and beyond, the University Librarian, Dr. Owolabi Kehinde Abayomi, has inspected all the nine (9) College libraries in the University to ascertain their current status, in terms of materials and human resources.
During the inspection, Dr. Owolabi equally met with the Deans of Colleges as well as their academic staff to properly intimate them with his lofty visions for the University Library.
He equally seized the opportunity to talk to the students on the importance of reading, and further encouraged them to always consult library staff for guidance whenever they encounter any difficulty in retrieving information for their assignments.
He also reminded the students that the University Library now opens between 8am – 7pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturday.
In addition, the University Librarian used the opportunity to inform the students that the New University Library named after the Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka is open for use, just as more computers have also been made available for students to use at ‘Nimbe Adedipe Library to further enhance students access to digital information.
The College of Plant Sciences won the outstanding College Library of the Month and a prize will be awarded the College Librarian on the 18th June, 2023 at the University Librarian’s office.
