The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has commended the activities of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) FUNAAB Chapter with a charge to the Organisation to continue to provide quality leadership.
Professor Salako gave the charge while receiving the new executives of the organization who paid him and his management team a courtesy call.
According to him, “the kind of organization that you are running is such that you should provide leadership training and I want to enjoin you that you should start from within”.
The Vice-Chancellor reminded the students that their primary responsibility in school is to study and get good grades, enjoining them to provide exemplary leadership even with their grades.
“Just make sure you work within the limits of success, don’t fail and don’t accumulate carry overs and when you do that, it provides good examples for those you are trying to lead. Your community service is very important but communication with your peers is better, the decency that you are promoting in the club should reflect in terms of the influence you have with your mates”, he stressed.
The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that contrary to the claims that the standard of education has fallen, “it is the standard of moral education that has fallen and if you don’t get moral education right, there is nothing any teacher can do and moral education is the responsibility of parents even before we talk about religious leaders”.
Earlier in her remarks, the Chapter President Elect, Miss Aminat Oshinberu explained that JCI is a non-governmental organization that enables young active citizens to create positive change and impact on themselves and the community at large.
She highlighted the achievements of the Organisation in the last 5 years to include orphanage visitation, ‘the feed a child’ project where over a hundred children were fed and which won them an award in South Africa and the execution of a project on providing for the needy, where scandals and uniforms were provided for students.
Miss Oshinberu revealed that JCI also executed the ‘educate a child’ project where they assisted in constructing the library of a school and equipped it with some books, adding that the Organisation regularly holds the Future Leaders’ Summit among other activities.
The President on behalf of JCI FUNAAB Chapter appreciated the University Management for their support which she said has assisted the Organisation in achieving its goals.
