FUNAAB VC Calls for Revamping of Moral Education

Published On:

August 9, 2019

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has tasked parents to wake up to their responsibilities by providing sound moral education for children which will be complemented by the formal education received in schools.

Professor Salako gave this task while delivering his Address at the 2019 Prize-Giving Ceremony of the University’s Staff School.

Frowning at the negligent attitude of some parents toward moral education, the Vice-Chancellor said “I would say we should not blame teachers when it comes to standard of education because if we get the foundation right, which is the moral education that we should give children, then the standard will be okay”.

Professor Salako noted that, “We keep saying that standard of education has fallen and I keep asking the question, is it standard of education that really fell or standard of moral education? How many of our parents here can really use their phone in a maximal way without calling these littles ones? That is a level of education in itself which the parents did not go through”.

He commended the teachers for the dedication and commitment they display in handling the students with patience and discipline, while citing an example of an ex-student who performed excellently while at the Staff School and is still excelling in his academics.

The Head Teacher, FUNAAB Staff School, Mrs. Florence Alade welcoming guests for honouring the School’s invitation.

According to him, “This school is in our heart I can assure you that, not only because our own children passed through here but I can tell you that there are very good teachers here and we have a responsibility to keep it as a very good school. A pupil of this school who left this school went to Taidob and he kept the flag flying I think he has got admission into the University of Ibadan to study Mechanical Engineering”.

Calling on parents to join hands with the school to take it to enviable heights, the Vice-Chancellor said, “I want to enjoin parents that while we are trying our best here, help us to get the best out of the children. It is very important that we pay attention to them”.

Corroborating the Vice Chancellor, the Chairman of the Day, Professor Tope Popoola commended the school management for maintaining a high standard of education noting that  God will duly reward them for their labour of love over the pupils.

Earlier in her Welcome Address, the Head teacher, Mrs. Florence Alade commended the pupils for being good ambassadors of their various homes, adding that “I want to appeal to you to continue to be good ambassadors of this great school. Some of you represented the school at the various competitions and you never let the school down. I want to appeal to you to continue this way”.

Mrs Alade lauded the University management, teachers, non-teaching staff and the Parent Teacher Association members for their continuous support towards making sure the goals, Vision and Mission of the school are being actualized.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of Prizes and Awards w to students whom performed excellently.
