The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), today, April 20, 2026, received six verification panels from the National Universities Commission (NUC), for the resource assessment of its proposed academic programmes, as part of efforts to secure final approval.

The programmes under review include Geophysics, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Clothing and Textiles, Science Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology, and Public Health.

Addressing the visiting teams, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, commended the NUC for its sustained commitment to quality assurance within the Nigerian University System. He noted that FUNAAB, with nearly four decades of academic excellence, remains resolute in its mandate to deliver quality teaching, research, and innovation in support of national development.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the proposed programmes had undergone rigorous internal scrutiny, including Senate approval, before submission to the NUC. He expressed confidence in the University’s preparedness, citing the availability of adequate facilities, qualified personnel, and relevant academic resources, while also welcoming constructive feedback to further enhance programme delivery.

Highlighting the University’s accreditation profile, Prof. Kehinde stated that all existing programmes currently enjoy full accreditation status. He added that about 95 percent of the University’s programmes were science-oriented, with a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship aimed at producing job creators and innovators.

Responding on behalf of the NUC panels, Prof. Nelson Osuchukwu explained that the exercise was an objective resource assessment designed to evaluate facilities, manpower, and documentation in line with regulatory standards. He assured that the panels would conduct a thorough assessment and submit detailed reports to the Commission for necessary action, while also appreciating the University Management for the warm reception.

At the exit meeting of the Resource Assessment Teams, the Vice-Chancellor assured that efforts would be intensified to further improve staffing and resources for the new academic programmes. He emphasised the University’s commitment to transparency and professionalism, noting that accurate record-keeping remains central to safeguarding both the institution and its workforce during audits and future reviews.

Describing the proposed programmes as highly sought-after, Prof. Kehinde expressed confidence in the University’s capacity to provide the expertise and facilities required for their successful take-off. He further assured that continuous improvements would be made, particularly in preparation for future accreditation exercises.

“We are committed to nurturing these programmes carefully, just like a mother prioritises feeding her child,” he stated, underscoring the institution’s dedication to strengthening the newly established programmes.
