The Nimbe Adedipe Library (NAL), recently held a Send-Forth Ceremony for its retired staff members at the Wole Soyinka Library.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kola Adebayo, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the retirees for their dedicated service to the University.
He emphasised the University Management’s appreciation for their contributions and the importance of recognising their efforts.
Prof. Kehinde also commended the University Librarian, Dr. Abayomi Owolabi, for his effective leadership, which has led to significant progress in the Library’s operations.
He admonished current staff members to remain dedicated to their duties so they could also be celebrated, upon retirement.
Earlier in his Welcome Address,
the University Librarian, Dr. Abayomi Owolabi appreciated the retirees for their dedication and spotless records during their tenure.
He expressed gratitude to the University Management for its support, which has been crucial in achieving various improvements, such as replacing old furniture and initiating new projects like a Bookshop and a Library Training School.
Deputy Registrar I, Senate and Admissions, Dr. Abdussobur Salaam, encouraged the retirees to engage in fulfilling endeavours.
Dr. Salaam also commended the Library staff for their camaraderie and support towards the retirees.
Mr. Olurotimi Fasunwon, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU-FUNAAB) Branch, urged the University Management to institutionalise the celebration of all retired staff to motivate current employees.
Mr. Samson Edvri, Chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union Of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU-FUNAAB) Branch who was represented by Com. Anthony Ayoola, also appreciated the retirees, acknowledging them as excellent ambassadors of NASU.
Prof. Fredrick Ajegbomogun, University Librarian at the University of Science and Technology, Ondo State, expressed his joy in celebrating the retirees, admiring them for their unblemished records.
Responding, Mr. Jonathan Fatokun, a former Chief Library Officer, speaking on behalf of the retirees, expressed gratitude to the University Librarian and the entire Library staff for the honour.
The retirees honoured were Mr. Nureni Lasisi (Assistant Chief Library Officer), Mr. Moshood Sanni (Assistant Chief Supervisor, Porter), and Mr. Akanbi Kusimo (Assistant Chief Supervisor, Driver).
Highpoint was the presentation of the Best Library Staff of the Year Award to Mr. Sunday Borisade, along with gifts for the retirees.
