…As FUNAAB Alumni Hold 26th Annual Convention

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu has pointed corruption, and inadequate training on the part of the police as the major factors contributing to mistrust between the police and the citizens.
CP Alamutu disclosed this while addressing the theme “Insecurity in Nigeria: The Mistrust between the Police and the Citizenry,” during the 26th Annual Convention and 25th Annual Lecture series of the Alumni Association of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
Addressing the audience gathered at the Red Chamber recently, CP Alamutu outlined the multifaceted nature of insecurity in Nigeria, encompassing insurgency, ethnic conflicts, and criminal activities.
He emphasised the roles of citizens in promoting national security through vigilance, community engagement, and support for law enforcement.
Discussing a way forward, CP Alamatu proposed a systemic reform to enhance police accountability, transparency, and citizen-police relationships, which, according to him, is crucial for combating insecurity and fostering social cohesion.
Welcoming the attendees to the Convention, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde expressed gratitude to the members of the Alumni Association for their continued support and contributions to their alma mater.
Reflecting on FUNAAB’s achievements, Prof. Kehinde attributed the University’s success to effective leadership and a dedicated community.
He emphasised FUNAAB’s commitment to maintaining its trajectory of growth and development, thereby ensuring a University that functions efficiently.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the University’s dedication to excellence and progress, echoing the spirit of the FUNAAB Anthem.
Appreciating the Alumni Association for their ongoing support, Prof. Kehinde commended their efforts in sponsoring students and encouraged their involvement in elevating FUNAAB to world-class standards.
In his Address, the Chairman of the Convention, Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), who was represented by Prof. Tope Popoola acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor’s compassionate leadership, stressing the importance of strong institutions in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
Earlier in the President’s Welcome Address, the Global President of FUNAAB Alumni Association, Dr. Olusegun Ogundiran reflected on the Association’s positive impact, particularly in supporting disadvantaged students.
He recognised notable alumni for their achievements across various fields, emphasising the importance of a strong alumni network in advancing the University’s legacy.
Present at the Convention were the immediate past Registrar, Dr. ‘Bola Adekola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kola Adebayo, and the Ag. Bursar, Mr. Olukayode Osinuga.
Others were the Osun State NSCDC Commandant, Commandant Michael Adaralewa; representative of the Ogun State NSCDC Commandant, Deputy Commander Ajayi Amos; Legislative Aid to the Deputy Senate President, Prince Oyede Oke, among several other notable guests.
Highpoint was the presentation of awards to the Guest Speaker and some of the distinguished alumni members.
The 26th Annual Convention and 25th Lecture Series under the Chairmanship of the Global Convention Organising Committee (GCOC), Mr. Sanjo Somefun was a success and it was unique because it marked an end to the blissful leadership of Dr. Segun Ogundiran, ushering in Mr. Bolaji Gbadamosi to steer the affairs of the Association for the next four years.
