POWER SUPPLY: Better Days Are Coming - VC … As FUNAAB set to receive 3MVA Generator

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has reiterated his resolve to make the daunting challenge of electricity in the University a thing of the past, promising that better days are coming.

Speaking during the Facility Tour of the Umar Kabir Male and Iyalode Tinubu Female Hostels, the Vice-Chancellor noted with dismay the recurring breakdown of the near 15-year old 1-MVA Generator procured during the administration of Professor Israel Adu.

He stated that there were about 53 Power Generating Sets on campus, adding that the large numbers had made the Generators difficult to maintain.

Admonishing the students to bear the slight discomfort being experienced in the Hostels due to the erratic power supply, Professor Salako urged them not allow anyone to incite them into breaching peace on campus.

According to him, “Reflect on whether you have 24-hour electricity and water at your various homes. Remember the purpose of coming here. Don’t allow anyone to influence you negatively”.

He, informed that the University is awaiting the approval of a 3MVA Generator that would take care of all the electricity needs on campus, stressing the need to follow due process in getting it approved.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that in the interim, the University had made a palliative arrangement by reaching an understanding with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), to give priority to FUNAAB, noting that IBEDC would give whatever it has in terms of energy generation.
