2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS: Welldone! Let’s Do It Again In 2023 - INEC Commends (Adhoc) Team from FUNAAB

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ogun State Headquarter, Magbon, Abeokuta has commended members of the University Community who were engaged as adhoc staff for the conduct of the recent Presidential and Governorship Elections for good performance.

INEC said she was so impressed by the performance of her adhoc team from FUNAAB that she’s already looking forward to partnering with the University for the conduct of 2023 national elections.

INEC Head of Department of Voters Education, Mrs.Adenike Tadese disclosed this in an exclusive telephone chat with FUNAAB Bulletin.

Mrs.Tadese who rated FUNAAB’s adhoc staff of INEC high said she was impressed by their pedigree, describing them as people of integrity.

She pin-pointed that throughout the electioneering period there wasn’t any reported case of INEC adhoc staff from FUNAAB having illicit hobnobbing with politicians at their Polling Units nor collecting money from them.

Mrs.Tadese who pointed out that some adhoc staff from the University, especially Collation Officers had challenges during the conduct of the Presidential Elections, however, expressed joy that they put up exceptional performance at the Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The HOD Voters Education said INEC did not regret engaging FUNAAB staff as adhoc staff, pointing out that INEC synergy with the University is a robust partnership that made votes to count at the elections, adding that the electoral umpire can’t wait to engage FUNAAB’s staff as adhoc staff for the conduct of elections in 2023.

It would be recalled that quite a quantum of FUNAAB staff were recruited by INEC as it adhoc staff.

The selected staff served their father’s land at various levels as Collation Officers and Returning Officers while some students served as Polling Officers and Assistant Poling Officers.

The University also made sacrifices by releasing this chunk of its workforce to attend almost a whole day pre-election training twice while they were also released on the Fridays preceding the Presidential and Governorship Elections.

Those engaged are member of staff from CONTISS 9  and Lecturer I I and above

Apparently leading by example in the patriotic service to nation’s building, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako also served as the Collation Officer for the Presidential Election in Lagos State.

FUNAAB Bulletin reported that after presenting the Lagos result, the INEC National Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakuub while exchanging warm handshake with the Vice-Chancellor said, “Professor Kolawole Salako, thank you very much”.
