The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has once again recorded a landmark contribution to national academic development, as one of its distinguished staff members, Prof. Wasiu Lawal, has been appointed the pioneer University Librarian of the newly established Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji (FUADSI), Osun State.
Until his appointment, Prof. Lawal served as a Deputy University Librarian at the Prof. Wole Soyinka Digital Library, FUNAAB, where he played a pivotal role in advancing the University’s knowledge resources and research support services.
A seasoned scholar and expert in Library and Information Science, Prof. Lawal brings nearly four decades of experience to his new role. He holds a Ph.D. and Master’s Degrees in Library and Information Science from the University of Ibadan, a B.A. (Ed) from the Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ago-Iwoye, and a Diploma in Library and Information Science from the University of Ibadan, obtained in 1990.
His elevation to the rank of Professor of Library and Information Science in 2023 was a testament to his academic distinction, professional excellence, and unwavering dedication to knowledge management.
In his congratulatory message, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, expressed immense pride in Prof. Lawal’s achievement, describing it as a reflection of the calibre of intellectuals nurtured within the University Community.
Prof. Kehinde noted that the appointment has reinforced FUNAAB’s reputation as a breeding ground for exceptional leaders in academia, and he wished the newly appointed University Librarian success in his pioneering role at FUADSI.
