The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to continuous training and capacity building for all categories of staff, not leaving out the drivers, mechanics, and vehicle operators, whom he described as “critical stakeholders” in the University.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this today, June 30, 2025, while declaring open a 4-Day Capacity Building Workshop on Safety, Maintenance and Ethics, themed: “Defensive and Safety Driving Techniques and Maintenance with Good Work Ethics/Attitudes for Government Motor Drivers and Mechanics,” held at the Prof. Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building.
The training, organised by Lizzy Oyinlola Consult, a certified Automobile Engineering and Training Firm based in Abeokuta, aimed to equip participants with modern safety and maintenance skills, as well as instil professional ethics required for effective service delivery.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the importance of drivers and mechanics in the day-to-day running of the University cannot be overstated, noting that their responsibilities directly affect the image, operations, and overall productivity of the University.
His words: “You are the face of this University in many instances, and the role you play in maintaining safety, order, and reliability of transportation is invaluable. Nobody should look down on your job. You are vital to our mission and goals.”
He encouraged participants to engage actively with the Resource Persons, ask questions freely, even in their native languages if necessary, and take advantage of the wealth of experience being shared.
In his address, the Director of Works and Services, Engr. Funso Ipadeola expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for approving the timely and strategic training, stressing that it would empower participants to become better professionals and individuals.

The first keynote speaker, Venerable Olurotimi Akinyele, JP, delivered a lecture on “Basic Elements of Vehicle Maintenance”, highlighting the core functions of a motor vehicle, daily routine checks, and morning inspections. He also gave an in-depth presentation on road accidents, identifying human, mechanical, and environmental factors, as well as preventive measures.
The second keynote address was delivered by Mr. Gbolahan Opaleye, who spoke on “Good Work Ethics, Effective Communication, and Human Relations for Productivity Improvement.”
Present at the Opening Ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Mufutau Atayese; Head of Mechanical Services (Works and Services), Engr. Rasaq Bamidele; and retired Federal Road Safety Corps Commander, Mr. Kehinde Ojutalayo, among several others.
