Preparatory to embarking on Industrial Training Programme, the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund(ITF) has organised Orientation Programme for Batch B non-agricultural students of the University.
Speaking at the programme, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Chairman SIWES Committee, Prof. Christian Ikeobi charged the students to seize the opportunity to learn and be motivated not only to achieve SIWES objectives but to also establish strong and lasting relationships towards fulfilling their career objectives in the near future.
Prof. IKeobi encouraged the students to bear in mind that SIWES is a skill acquisition programme designed to expose undergraduates to industrial work situations, preparatory to life after graduation.
The University Don further said that the Scheme allows the students to familiarise themselves with good work ethics, equipment, machinery, and tools available in public and private institutions.
He charged the students to bear in mind that they are carrying the name of FUNAAB which has been rated number one in Nigeria public Universities and as such, they should carry the spirit of excellence and protect the interest of FUNAAB positively in diligence, hard work and reliability.
The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Area Manager, Abeokuta Mrs. Bolanle Ajibade in her Address charged the students to be good ambassadors wherever they go, noting that they represent every world around them such as the Federal government, National Universities commission (NUC), FUNAAB, ITF, their parents as well as themselves.
In his speech, the Director of SIWES, FUNAAB, Prof. Adeolu Akinyemi said the Scheme is a skill training programme designed to expose and prepare the students of the University and other tertiary institutions for the industrial Work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.
Prof. Akinyemi pointed out that SIWES was put in place to complement the theory taught in the various classrooms, in order to produce well-rounded individuals to manage our industries, factories and production outlets tomorrow.
He added that the scheme is aimed at bridging the existing gap between theory and practice of Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Management, Information and Communication Technology, among others in tertiary institutions.
