In a bid to improve security within and outside the University Campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has reiterated his commitment to helping the police in beefing up security around the university and its environs.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this during a courtesy call on him by member of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Adatan Area Command.

Receiving his guests, Prof. Salako stressed the need for security to be taken seriously in order to avoid lawlessness in the country.

According to him, “I am one of those who believe that the Police are our friends. A country cannot run without the law enforcement agents because every human being has the tendency to break the law. That is why our University was fully in support of the establishment of the Harmony Police Station and even facilitated the acquisition of some facilities so as to make their job easier and effective”.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that his Administration has engaged in the use of dialogue to keep the youths under control.

He implored the Police to continue to help Management to understand the youths, whom he believes acts strangely due to their constant use of technology which is the most requisite for all in todays’ world.

He added that strict restrictions had been placed on the movement of vehicles as tinted vehicles owned by students are not allowed into the campus and the parking space outside the campus is also monitored.

The Vice-Chancellor who pleaded with the police to intervene in the herders-farmers clashes and encroachment into the university land by unknown persons reiterated his commitment to adequate security of life and properties in the university community.

He added that the University will always be ready to mitigate for the students because of their future, but will not hesitate to hand extreme criminal cases over to the law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the Police Area Commander, Adatan, CSP Abdulazeez Edun, revealed that the familiarization tour had been on for the past two weeks. He said it is an opportunity to familiarize with the university environment.

He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for creating time to attend to them despite his busy schedule.
