The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing an enhanced experience for participants of the Teach For Nigeria (TFN) Fellowship Programme, assuring the visiting delegation of improved welfare, security and facilities ahead of this year’s exercise.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University’s Planning Committee, headed by the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Festus Adeosun, commenced preparations early, drawing from lessons learnt during last year’s programme. He added that the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olusegun Idowu, had been assigned to monitor the committee’s activities, while he would personally oversee the entire process. According to him, the committee comprised experienced members from the previous exercise alongside new members to ensure continuity and improved service delivery.

Prof. Kehinde revealed that the renovation and upgrading of hostel facilities were already underway, while a Welfare Sub-Committee, chaired by the Dean, College of Biosciences (COLBIOS), Prof. Iyabode Kehinde, had been constituted to coordinate the welfare of the Fellows throughout their stay.

Highlighting recent infrastructural improvements, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the University now enjoys almost 24-hour electricity supply through its solar power plant. He added that the ongoing hostel renovations would guarantee uninterrupted water supply, including to the upper floors of the hostels.

On security, Prof. Kehinde disclosed that the University had strengthened collaboration with the Harmony Police Division and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), with armed security personnel strategically deployed across the campus to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

He further stated that the University Health Centre had been upgraded with additional Doctors and Nurses to provide round-the-clock medical services for the Fellows and the entire University Community.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that the University’s stable academic calendar would further support the success of the programme, noting that the 2025/2026 Academic Session would end on July 23, 2026, after which students and most Academic staff would proceed on vacation, creating a more conducive environment for the Fellowship activities.

Expressing confidence in the success of the programme, Prof. Kehinde assured the delegation of FUNAAB’s readiness to promptly address any challenges and pledged the University’s full cooperation towards ensuring a rewarding and memorable experience for all the Teach For Nigeria Fellows.

Also present at the meeting were other members of the committee, including the Deputy Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Matthew Wheto; Principal Assistant Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Adekunle Adebiyi; Principal Internal Auditor, Mr. Victor Enilolobo, and an Accountant, Mr. Godswill Olatunde, among others.
