The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has matriculated a total of two-hundred and twenty two students into its Part time degree programme in the university.
Addressing the matriculating students, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako congratulated the part-time students on their admission into FUNAAB, noting that with the matriculation exercise, they have written their names as bona-fide students of the University.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Morenike Dipeolu, the Vice-Chancellor assured the matriculating students that FUNAAB is one of the best universities in Nigeria, based on the quality assurance of our various programmes.
He noted that the occasion of matriculation ceremony is to admit, advice as well as caution students on some solemn issues that bother on ethics and values that would guarantee successful studentship and nurturing them to become good citizens of their various nationalities.
The Vice-Chancellor admonished the matriculants to exhibit high degree of discipline in their academic and social lives, warning that any student who contravene acceptable norms and practices will face sanctions.
Further stressing on discipline, Professor Salako said, “FUNAAB will continue its sustained efforts at encouraging students to be disciplined in both academic and social activities, those who have other reasons for being in the university aside academic pursuits will not be tolerated.
Speaking on examination malpractices and other related vices, he noted that the university administration on occasion like this always intimates matriculating students that all credentials presented for admission into the university will be verified with the relevant examination bodies.
“Any student found to have falsified his/her credentials will be promptly shown the way out of the university and may even be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for prosecution”.
“In the same vein, students who engage in examination malpractices and other related vices would face appropriate sanctions ranging from rustication to expulsion” he warned.
According to him, the university will continue to intensify the monitoring of student activities in an effort to keep the campus peaceful, he advised them to report any case of harassment and undue pressure from any person or group of persons to the part-time degrees Coordinator’s office.
Professor Salako tasked them to take their health serious during their study, stressing that, “Health is wealth”, he enjoined them to get registered at the University Health Centre. “With a sound health, you will be able to accomplish your goal in life”, he added.
Speaking on the university’s environment, the Vice-Chancellor said that “our environment is our pride”, stating that FUNAAB has resolved to keep its environment clean. “Hence you are expected at all times to keep the campus clean and make use of the Comfort Stations and avoid indiscriminate display of posters, handbill and other materials on the university’s facilities”, he concluded.
He advised the matriculants to look beyond matriculation as just a ceremony of taking photographs, but a serious business of oath-taking and signing of legal documents, which stands as an open agreement between them and the university with a promise to perform their duties and obligations, to respect, defend and promote the rules and regulations and also the good name of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor gave the breakdown of those offered provisional admission by the University Senate for the 2018/2019 Session as follows; College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (31); College of Biological Sciences (23); College of Environmental Resources Management (35); College of Food Science and Human Ecology (56); College of Physical Sciences (71) and College of Plant Science and Crop Production (6), totaling 222 students accredited for the university programmes.
