FUNAAB Organises Training for Non-Teaching Staff

In a bid to strengthen the capabilities and knowledge base of its Non-Teaching Staff, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) recently organised a One-Day Familiarisation Training for its staff members employed from 2018 till Date.

Reflecting on the University’s journey to its current status, Prof. Kehinde acknowledged the significant role played by many individuals, emphasising the need for the ongoing staff development. He said that the Training Programme was organised to foster growth among the staff.

Speaking at the event which was held at the Red Chamber, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde extended a warm welcome to all participants, commending the organising committee alongside the two resource persons, Mr. Adebayo Ogundimu, Head, SERVICOM Unit and Mr. Moses Ayanda, the Deputy Registrar II, Vice-Chancellor’s Office as he underscored the importance of having a clear purpose to drive individual and collective efforts.

Highlighting the University’s history, Prof. Kehinde noted the importance of starting the Training with recently employed staff members, stressing the significance of the Training section in grounding staff, fostering a sense of belonging, and aligning everyone with the University’s vision.

In her Address, the Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for prioritising the Training, especially for Non-Teaching Staff. She encouraged participants to actively engage in the Training sessions, emphasising the essence of punctuality at work in propelling the University forward.

Earlier in his Welcome Address, Dr. Abdussobur Salaam commended the Vice-Chancellor by expressing gratitude for the series of Training sessions. Dr. Salaam stated that the Training’s purpose was to acquaint staff with the University system’s basics, particularly focusing on newly-employed staff.

He revealed plans to extend the Training to staff on CONTISS 13 and above to enhance their competitive value.

Mr. Ogundimu, the first Resource Person delved into the workings of the university system and FUNAAB, explaining the hierarchical structure from the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor to the University Senate, shedding light on the role of the Governing Council in regulating conduct.

Mr. Ayanda, the second Resource Person delivered a Lecture on “General Work Ethics and University Rules and Regulations.” He emphasised the importance of staff adhering to rules, including punctuality, loyalty, and self-discipline.

Present at the event were the Ag. Bursar, Mr. Olukayode Osinuga; the representative of the University Librarian, Dr. Sarah Adegbaye; Chairman, SSANU-FUNAAB, Com. Olurotimi Fasunwon; Chairman, NASU-FUNAAB, Com. Samson Edvri; and Chairman, NAAT-FUNAAB, Com. Joseph Olurinde, along with other top officers of the University.

The Orientation Programme which drew enthusiastic participation from the entire spectrum of FUNAAB’s Non-Teaching Staff who were employed from 2018 till Date, marked a significant step in empowering them to contribute effectively to the University’s continued success.
