Another milestone has been recorded by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) with its latest ranking among the top 10 universities in Nigeria actively using e-resource for giant strides in utilising Information and Communication Technology to drive development.

This is according to the ranking recently conducted by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for all public higher institutions across Nigeria, including Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.

The hint emerged at a recent training organised by TETFund in Abuja, which was aimed at raising awareness about the TERAS database, a resource to which TETFund subscribes on behalf of all higher institutions.

In his Opening Remarks, the Executive Secretary (ES), TETFund, represented by the Director of ICT, Dr. Joseph Odo revealed the list of universities with the highest utilisation of the database.

FUNAAB was recognised as one of the top ten institutions actively using this valuable e-resource.

The ES encouraged other universities to follow the example set by these top-performing institutions, emphasising that despite the significant investment by the Federal Government in subscribing to the database, the overall usage among academic staff remains below expectations.

In a related development, the University Library in FUNAAB recently organised an e-journals and e-books awareness day, aimed at educating academic staff on the importance of utilising e-resources to enhance research output.

The University Librarian, Prof. Kehinde Owolabi, expressed his satisfaction with the University’s ranking and highlighted ongoing efforts to transform the Library into a world-class facility, equipped with state-of-the-art resources.

Prof. Owolabi also took the opportunity to thank the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for his unwavering support of the Library’s initiatives.

He extended his gratitude to the Library staff for their dedication and commitment to excellence.
