The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has strengthened its contribution to Nigeria’s food security drive as its Alumni Association expands investments in agriculture, with the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, HRM, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, Asoludero, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, applauding the initiative as a practical demonstration of commitment to national food production.
Oba Olabomi gave the commendation today, October 15, 2026, during an inspection of the Association’s 2,000-hectare farmland, which features a 15-hectare plantain farm and extensive cultivation of cassava, sesame, yam, groundnuts, bell peppers, tomatoes and several other crops.

Impressed by the scale and diversity of the agricultural investments, the Pro-Chancellor commended the Alumni for translating their commitment to the University into productive ventures capable of supporting food security, agricultural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
He noted that the collaboration between FUNAAB and its Alumni presented a significant opportunity to expand agricultural production, promote sustainable farming practices and contribute to national efforts to ensure food availability and affordability.

During the inspection, Oba Olabomi was informed that the plantain farm was expected to be ready for harvesting in March 2027, marking a significant milestone in the Association’s agricultural enterprise.
The visit also enabled the Pro-Chancellor to assess the progress of the farming activities and their potential to enhance food supply, create employment opportunities, promote agribusiness and strengthen practical agricultural training in line with FUNAAB’s mandate.

Speaking on the vision driving the initiative, the President of the FUNAAB Alumni Association, Otunba Bolaji Gbadamosi, reaffirmed the Association’s determination to make a meaningful contribution to national food security, declaring emphatically, “We’re poised to feed the nation.”
He explained that the agricultural investments represented the Alumni’s commitment to supporting the University’s mission and translating alumni engagement into tangible contributions to agricultural development and Nigeria’s economic growth. The Global President, therefore, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for his invaluable support to the FUNAAB Alumni Association.

Beyond the farmland, the Pro-Chancellor inspected the ongoing construction of the FUNAAB Alumni Guest House and the Association’s operational Driving School, where he was briefed on other facilities and initiatives established to advance the Association’s objectives.
Otunba Gbadamosi was accompanied by the Association’s Secretary, Mr. Femi Ajayi, during the inspection, which highlighted the growing role of University-Alumni partnerships in driving agricultural innovation, enterprise development and sustainable food production.
