… As VC Urges Students to Combine Academic Success with Good Character

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has sensitised its newly admitted students on academic expectations, career opportunities and the importance of developing the knowledge, skills and character required for a successful university experience and future career.
The Career Sensitisation Day, held today, September 23, 2026, at the Prof. Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building, provided the fresh students with practical guidance on navigating their academic journey, while taking advantage of opportunities available within and beyond the University.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olusegun Idowu, urged the students to pursue academic excellence, while cultivating good character, stressing that success in the University should extend beyond academic grades.
The Vice-Chancellor advised the students to respect their lecturers and fellow students, while approaching their studies with discipline, responsibility and a positive attitude. He noted that the values developed during their university years would be important in shaping their future lives and careers.
Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Head, Career Services and Linkages Unit (CSLU), Prof. Elijah Obayelu, said the Unit was committed to exposing students to career opportunities and equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to prepare effectively for life after graduation.
Prof. Obayelu emphasised that a student’s professional journey begins from the moment of admission and not after graduation. He, therefore, encouraged the students to start early, remain resilient and hardworking, and take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the University.
He urged them to develop relevant skills, pursue their passions, believe in themselves and remain disciplined, noting that these attributes would contribute significantly to their future professional success.
The programme featured presentations by the Deans of various Colleges, who introduced the students to the academic programmes, opportunities and career pathways available within their respective Colleges, even as they encouraged them to begin making informed decisions about their future from the early stages of their university education.
Also speaking, the representative of the Aspire Trybe Youth Foundation, led by Mr. Alex Adekunle, challenged the students to identify, develop and maximise opportunities capable of helping them discover their talents and potential.
The Foundation introduced its five areas of development, which were Discovery, Development, Connect, Build and Impact, emphasising the importance of identifying personal abilities, developing relevant competencies, building meaningful relationships and deploying acquired skills and talents to create positive impact.
Meanwhile, the Career Sensitisation Day thus provided the newly admitted students with valuable orientation as they commenced their academic journey at FUNAAB, reinforcing the University’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also skilled, innovative, responsible and prepared for meaningful careers and responsible citizenship.
