FUNAAB Signs MoU With Greenwich University …Commences another with Copenhagen University  

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and the University of Greenwich, UK has taken their collaboration of over two decades to the next level with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on another strata of development other than the existing ones.

The University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako signing FUNAAB’s MoU with the University of Greenwich, UK while the Vice-Chancellor of the latter, Professor David Maguire watched with keen interest.

In the same vein, the University (FUNAAB) and the University of Copenhagen, Denmark have also commenced a steady process of signing an MoU that cuts across the former tripodal mandate of teaching, research and extension.

The development is the climax of the University’s Principal Officers and relevant Directors visit to Greenwich University, Kent, U.K. and University of Copenhagen, Denmark recently.

Briefing FUNAAB Bulletin on the outcome of the visit to Greenwich University, UK, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Lateef Sanni who did his Benchwork PhD in the University disclosed that the two institutions signed 7 points MoU.

According to Professor Sanni, the University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako and the Vice-Chancellor of Greenwich University, UK, Professor David Maguire signed the MoU in the latter’s office.

However, Professor Sanni quickly pointed out that this particular MoU is unique in the sense that “it goes beyond collaboration in the existing research and teaching, it comes with numerous opportunities for staff of both Universities in mobility and capacity development”.

He emphasized that the 7-points MoU will expand and strengthen collaboration, especially in the areas of staff exchange, sourcing of fund, joint supervision of students, among others.

The newly signed MoU didn’t come as a surprise. The Director of Natural Research Institute (NRI), Greenwich University, Professor Andrew Westby had said this about FUNAAB.

“I was very impressed when I first visited FUNAAB in 1998 by the energy, professionalism and dedication of their staff and commitment to both academic excellence and making a difference in the lives of poor people”.

Similarly, the Director of CEADESE, Professor Kayode Akinyemi has disclosed that FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako and Dean of Sciences and Agriculture, Copenhagen University, Denmark, Professor John Hanser, and Dr. (Mrs.) Camilla Rump of Department of Science Education have started the process of discussion that will culminate in partnership in the areas of Research, Training, Students / Staff Exchange, Joint research, joint supervision of students, joint organization of conferences, sourcing for fund, among others.
