INTRODUCTION
The Directorate of Environmental Management of the University, started as Parks and Gardens Unit at the inception of the University’s relocation to the permanent site, Alabata in 1995. The Unit operated under Directorate of Physical Planning until 2008 when it was excised from Directorate of Physical Planning to be an independent Unit under the Vice- Chancellor’s office and late Mr. A.A. Fetuga was appointed the first Unit Head between 2008 and 2010.
Recognizing the need to further develop and enhance the natural and physical landscape of the University campus to achieve cleaner, healthier, greener and aesthetic environment conducive to teaching, research and related activities, the Unit was broadened and consolidated to become Directorate of Environmental Management (acronym: DEM) under the Vice- Chancellor’s office, a creation of the University Governing Council at its 66th meeting in May, 2011.
The council at that meeting approved the proposed organogram to be headed by a director with two distinct Units: (1) Parks and Gardens Unit (Plant Nursery, Landscaping and Parks Establishment, Trees and landscape management), (2) Sanitation Unit (Waste Management, Building Cleaning, Drainage and Road Cleaning, Fumigation and Pest Control)
Since then, the Directorate has been headed at various time by: Mr. E.A. Bankole, 2012-2017, Mr. M.B. Idowu, 2017-2019, Dr. B.A. Ojo, 2019-2021, Mr. O.O. Maraiyesa, January 2021- July, 2021. The Directorate is currently headed by Mr. M.O. Ogunlami.
