US Naval Awardee Visits FUNAAB

A US Naval awardee and an alumnus of the University, Lt. Victor Agunbiade paid a Courtesy Visit to the Vice-Chancellor today, December 22, 2021. Lt. Agunbiade was rewarded last year with a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal by the United States Navy for his meritorious service at Djibouti, a northeast country situated at the Horn of Africa.

Speaking about his visit to his Alma Mater, Lt. Agunbiade stated that he was instituting a N500,000 scholarship for two students in the Departments of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as Agricultural Economics. According to him, he had planned to give back to the University who laid the foundation for his success.

Lt. Agunbiade further stated that he was ready to donate books, computers and other accessories to the University to aid teaching, learning and research.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale appreciated the Naval Officer for his thoughtfulness in giving back to the University, calling on other alumni to emulate Lt. Agunbiade.

The meeting had in attendance, the Registrar, Dr. Bola Adekola; Representative of the Deputy Registrar I, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Folashade Giwa; Head, Office of Advancement, Mr. Johnson Olukehinde as well as immediate family members of Lt. Agunbiade.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako in the company of the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun later met Lt. Agunbiade. They equally commended him for his honesty, integrity and high accountability skills when he managed the US Navy’s largest cash disbursing office of 45 Million US Dollars in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and overseas contingency operations, recently.

Lt Agunabiade holds a Bachelor of Agriculture from the Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD) in 1997 and was the Sports Secretary of the FUNAAB Student Union in 1992/93 session.
