Works Directorate Honours Staff

For their meritorious service to the Directorate of Works and Services, and the University, the Electrical Unit of FUNAAB has honoured Messrs. Celestine Egwuonwu, James Olatunde and Jonathan Adenekan. At the event, the Director, Works and Services, Engr. Olawole Akinyele commended the retirees for their remarkable contributions to the University. He added that their ability to show others the right way had made them stars among others, stressing that their selfless service had contributed to the development of the University. The Director charged other members of staff to learn from the good deeds of the retirees, stating that their attitude to work would determine how they are to be celebrated in future.

  He admonished them to see students of the University as their employers and ensure they provide the best service to them, adding that they should always be willing to make them comfortable so that they can read well.   The Head, Electrical Unit, Engr. Bode Soyinka, stated that the send-forth ceremony was the first of its kind, disclosing that two of the retirees were pioneer staff of the University. He revealed that the retirees had served FUNAAB meritoriously without any bad record despite the pressures of work. While appreciating God that the Unit never had any misfortune, Engr. Soyinka congratulated the retirees for their successful exit from the service of the University and prayed for good health, to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

  Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Egwuonwu, who joined the services of the University when it was known as the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB), appreciated the Directorate for putting up the send-Off ceremony for them. He recalled that he started work as the only electrical officer when he joined the services of the University, as he thanked God for seeing him through. Mr. Olatunde also appreciated God for preserving his life and that of other retirees. The University Registrar, Dr. ‘Bola Adekola, represented by Mr. Bolaji Balogun, appreciated the organisers of the event and congratulated the retirees for their meritorious service to the University. Gifts were presented to the retirees by the Electrical Unit.
