The Alumni Association of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is calling on its global network of graduates and partners to converge for the Global Convention ’26, a high-impact gathering designed to strengthen alumni engagement and mobilise strategic support for the University’s continued growth and innovation.
Scheduled to take place from April 28 to May 3, 2026, the Convention would assemble alumni, industry leaders, policymakers, and development partners from across the continents in a week-long programme of intellectual exchange, networking, and community impact initiatives.
At the heart of the international appeal is a renewed push for alumni worldwide to contribute meaningfully to their alma mater, through partnerships, investments, mentorship, and institutional support, particularly in advancing agriculture, research, and sustainable development.
This global call gained further momentum following a high-level engagement between the FUNAAB Alumni Global President, Otunba Bolaji Gbadamosi, and Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, in Abuja. The meeting noted the growing alignment between alumni-driven initiatives and national agricultural priorities.

During the visit, the Minister was formally invited to attend the Convention as a Special Guest and Chief Presenter of the FUNAAB Alumni Compendium, as well as Guest Lecturer at the flagship Convention Lecture. He expressed a strong interest in participating, signalling federal-level recognition of the Convention’s strategic importance.
Discussions also explored potential collaboration between the Ministry and the FUNAAB Alumni, particularly around the Alumni Farm Hub, a large-scale agribusiness initiative spanning over 2,000 acres, with plans for significant expansion. The proposed partnership aims to position the Hub as a national innovation and demonstration centre, contributing to food security, livestock development, and the transformation of agribusiness.
The Convention programme reflects a blend of academic discourse, social engagement, and outreach activities. Highlights include a virtual lecture on herbal cultivation and sustainable wellness, a mega reunion fiesta, a high-level convention lecture on sustainable business in an evolving economy, and community visits to traditional institutions and social welfare homes. An exhibition showcasing innovations and opportunities would run throughout the event.
Noting the adequate plans and arrangements for the largest gathering of the Alumni on the campus, the Chairman, Global Convention Organising Committee (GCOC) ’26, Dr. Oludare Adekoyeni emphasised that the Convention would be more than a reunion, saying that it has been organised to be a platform for collective action, urging alumni across the globe to reconnect, collaborate, and invest in the future of FUNAAB.
With increasing international participation and growing institutional partnerships, the Global Convention ’26 is poised to serve as a catalyst for transformative impact, bridging academia, industry, and government in shaping sustainable solutions for Nigeria and beyond.
