FUNAAB Holds 31st Convocation

…Honours Prof. Jega and Dr. Adeola

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has awarded the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, and the Co-founder, Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank), Dr. Afolabi Adeola with an Honorary Degree Of Doctor of Science (DSc).

The award was conferred on the duo during the 31st Convocation Ceremony of the University held at the expansive Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

Delivering his acceptance speech after the award, Prof. Jega appreciated the University Management for the award.

He stated that the award would encourage him to do more for the education sector.

Prof. Jega who was a one-time National President of the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities (ASUU) urged Government to increase the budgetary allocation to the educational sector.

He noted that with a better learning environment, Nigerian students would be able to compete favourably with other students all over the world.

Prof. Jega charged individuals to support government efforts in order to make education attractive and conducive for the students. He advised the Graduands to reflect on the nature of being found worthy both in character and learning in all they do.

Similarly, Dr. Afolabi Adeola lauded the University Management under the leadership of Prof. Babatunde Kehinde for the award bestowed on him.

He encouraged the Graduands to always think of what they can do to improve the society.

Dr. Adeola advised the students to make Nigeria better than it was now, noting that they should think outside the box to enjoy many opportunities that await them.

Dr. Adeola in appreciation, celebrated the 2022/2023 Best Graduating Student, Miss Oluwabusayo Olatedun with the award of One Million Naira.

Dr. Adeola made the pronouncement through the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kehinde after receiving the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (DSc).

Earlier, the Capital Express Insurance company had given Miss Olatedun a cheque of 250,000 Naira as a reward for her feat.

Meanwhile, Prof. Jega had visited the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-UNAAB) Branch prior to attending the 31st Convocation Ceremony. He was received by the Union’s Executives led by Dr. Oluwagbemiga Adeleye.
