God Has Been Faithful – VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has attributed the success recorded by his administration in the last three years to the faithfulness of God. He disclosed this when he appeared on FUNAAB Radio 89.5 FM as part of activities marking his 3rd year in office as Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Salako, who assumed duty as the 6th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University on November 1, 2017, revealed during the radio session that God had been faithful to him and his team by assisting them fulfill his plans for the institution. According to him, “The journey so far in the last three years has been eventful and remarkable.  I came with a vision and mission statement.  I came with a plan.  God assisted me to be liberal enough to accommodate views and suggestions as well as strong enough to take informed decisions despite obvious challenges.  In all, God has been faithful to us”.

  Prof. Salako said the 19 academic programmes presented for accreditation in 2019 recorded 100 percent accreditation adding that programmes of the Centre for Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE) we are the first in Africa to receive international accreditation from reputable regulatory bodies. The Vice-Chancellor stated that CEADESE’s Central Laboratory is a world-class facility that houses state-of-the-art equipment, adding that his administration was favourably disposed to improving lecture delivery through digitalised classrooms, provision of furniture as well as encourage research and development.

  Speaking on the developmental strides in store for the University, the Vice-Chancellor hinted that foundation-laying of the College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), phase II building would soon commence. He further disclosed that the future of the University was bright as in the next two years, FUNAAB would be better equipped with modern equipment for livestock production and processing, improved provision of electricity, water supply, renovation of existing buildings and construction of new ones.

  According to the Professor of Soil Physics, the University was ready for full resumption of academic activities as it had fumigated the classrooms and hostels and other offices up to five times between March and now. Professor Salako added that the digitalised classrooms in the university would enhance learning even as the University Management was prepared to respond to any emergency that may arise. He urged members of the University community to adhere strictly to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) protocols while assuring that adequate measures were in place towards a safe and secured environment for students’ resumption.

  The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that FUNAAB was proactive enough when the pandemic broke out in the country and that no one was infected.  He explained further that the University distributed COVID-19 palliatives to men of the Nigeria Police Force, members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and residents in the Community-Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS) locations of Odogbolu, Isaga-Orile, Iwoye-Ketu and Ode-Lemo. Prof. Salako lauded the Federal Government for adequate funding through the NEEDS Assessment, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and Revitalisation Fund. He assured that funds released by these Federal Government agencies were judiciously utilised alongside the extra-government earnings (EGE) for the ongoing 120 projects across the University for the provision of books, computer systems and 135 solar panels from the campus to Mawuko, stressing that “We do not only build, but we equip”. On staff welfare, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that 217 members of staff had attended local and international conferences and workshops while more staff would still benefit from the initiative. 

  Prof. Salako explained that the Camp-Alabata road was rehabilitated by his administration through a capital grant he got in 2019, calling on the Ogun State Government to check the excesses of trucks on the road in a bid to make the road motorable. He made a case for a wholistic and international agricultural development that would ensure that agriculture is seen as a business enterprise.  He called on governments at all levels to invest and improve farm settlements, create enabling environment and provide seedlings for the youths that are interested in agric-business. The Vice-Chancellor absolved students of the University from allegations of armed robbery and other violent crimes, saying that he was not bothered about fake news because he remained focused. Prof. Salako assured that his administration was always in constant dialogue with staff unions and would not abdicate its responsibility as the institution’s rules and regulations were meant to guide the entire University community.
