The Assistant Chief Environmental Officer (ACEO) of the University, Mr. Peter Bolarinwa has described security as the collective responsibility of all; irrespective of gender, language, race or colour particularly as the country is currently combating the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  Speaking during an interview with FUNAAB Bulletin, Mr. Bolarinwa, who was represented by the Head of Operations, Environmental Unit, Mr. Stephen Akingbesote reiterated the importance of intelligence, which he said is the main thrust of security.

 According to him, intelligence enables security agencies to work effectively at ensuring that guidelines and rules were adhered to in reducing the crime rate in the society. Mr. Bolarinwa, who is also the Chief Security Officer of FUNAAB, appreciated the University Management for ensuring that security men and officers on campus were able to come to work and go back safely. He highlighted the support received from management to include the provision of a bus, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and University-customised face masks, among others.  He confirmed that these measures greatly assisted his staff to work optimally during the total lockdown in the state. The ACEO called on Nigerians to assist security agencies across the country through intelligence as such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality and make the society safe and secure.

He advised members of staff of the University to obey and adhere strictly to the regulations and protocols released by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 by ensuring physical and social distancing between persons, using of face masks, regular washing of hands, application of alcohol-based hand sanitizers to flatten the curve of the pandemic, and reducing community spread. Mr. Bolarinwa said the security unit was pro-active enough in gathering intelligence and engaged the services of sister security agencies like the Nigeria Police Force and the Ogun State-owned So-Safe Corps to maintain and sustain the security apparatus in the University as part of measures to protect lives and property. He advised all to be security-conscious anywhere they find themselves, charging everyone to promote community security practices through peaceful co-existence with their neighbours, family members and friends, to curb burglary, armed robbery and violence.
