The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has reiterated its commitment to academic excellence through sustained staff training, strengthened research ethics, and structured manuscript evaluation processes aimed at promoting integrity and global best practices.

The assurance was given during a Research and Ethics Training Programme held today, April 21, 2026, at the University’s World Bank Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE).

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, emphasised that continuous staff training remains vital for institutional growth and professional competence. He urged participants to actively engage in the programme to enhance service delivery and overall institutional effectiveness.

In his Keynote Address, Prof. Isaac Aiyelaagbe described research ethics as the moral principles guiding scientific inquiry, noting that they were essential for protecting research participants and safeguarding academic integrity. He cautioned against unethical practices such as plagiarism, data fabrication, and sexual harassment.

Prof. Aiyelaagbe further highlighted the role of the University Research Ethics Committee (UREC) in reviewing research proposals and ensuring minimal risk to participants.

Also speaking, Prof. Isaiah Adejumobi stressed the importance of FUNAAB’s Research Ethics Policy, revised in 2022, which provided a framework for conducting research in line with humane and internationally acceptable standards, covering aspects ranging from exploratory studies to financial transparency.

On manuscript evaluation, Prof. Mutiu Busari noted that adherence to ethical standards involves ensuring originality, proper citation, risk mitigation, and responsible communication of research findings.

The programme concluded with a call on researchers and students to uphold ethical standards and embrace continuous capacity development in order to produce credible and impactful research.
